Il Gabbianno: Italian Fine Dining in Bariloche

As we have discussed before, one of the fabulous aspects to living in Bariloche is the amazing quality of dining options that exist.

Il Gabbiano is one of those palate-impressive specialty restaurants. Possibly one of the tastiest Italian restaurants that I have had the privilege of visiting, this cute little cottage on Ruta 77 (Circutio Chico) route is a must hit.

Owned by a local couple that create everything from the lush garden atmosphere to the chic interior decorations, from the classic wine list to the freshly created Italian dishes, Mimi Barchetta (the lovely female energy and impressive chef) and Guillermo Kempin (the welcoming host and maitre d) provide the affect of stepping into a small village nestled in the Dolomites. Their experience gained from living in Italy, Mimi is impressively talented at marrying the warm flavors of Italian tradition.

I was able to chat with Guillermo and Mimi a bit about their restaurant. Here is what they had to say…

SM: What is the biggest difference between Il Gabbiano and other restaurants in Argentina?

G&M: We feel different than many restaurants in Argentina because we belong to a small team of localities where the presence of the owners at the front of the kitchen is permanent. Without this special ingredient the restaurant would not function.

SM: What is the dish most desired by guests?

G&M: At this time, I would say that the inclination is for the Tortelli di carne al burro with sage.

SM: What is your favorite memory in regards to creating the restaurant?

G&M: Most definitely  the very strong family inheritance related to our cooking and the passion that has come from working with the wines and products of the land and the sea.

SM: Do you have any suggestions for those planning on visiting Il Gabbiano?

G&M: Have confidence in ours suggestions and feel as if you are at home. Our house is truly your house. Our purpose is to provide you with great moments in time…and that we are personally dedicated to the attention of ours guest. Our final evaluation always remains in the hands our visitors.
